MOMents
Resilient! If a had to choose a word that describes most of the women I know, and more specifically the mothers I know, I can think of a litany of attributes other than this one. LOVING, POWERFUL, WONDERFUL, AMAZING, INSPIRING, PERSEVERING, FABULOUS, LONG-SUFFERING, THOUGHTFUL, KIND, SWEET, NOBLE, SINCERE, FUN, HUMOROUS, DEDICATED, BEAUTIFUL, HARDWORKING! Resilient?.... a word sewn into the fabric of who we are as women, but should it be? I decided to look up the definition, and what I found gave way to many many thoughts about how women are often described. Upon further investigation, there is cause to question such a description.
Resilient-: capable of withstanding shock without permanent deformation or rupture.
: tending to recover from, or adjust easily to misfortune or change.
: able to become strong, healthy, or successful again after something bad happens.
: able to return to an original shape after being pulled, stretched, pressed, bent.
When I read these definitions, it hardly seems fair that this word is more likely to be used to describe women. Now don't get me wrong for we are the poster-child of bounce-backs, come-backs, and backbones! Given the choice I know I'd choose another word to represent the fabric of who we are, how about you? How would you best describe being YOU!
I'm a mom! WHAT'S your super POWER?
